Every day, all day, we are exposed to noise. Alarm clocks, music, traffic, car horns, power tools, lawn mowers, office machines, industrial equipment, telephones, running water, and so much more. The loud sounds of your busy life can contribute to hearing loss.
Because of the way our ears work, constant exposure to loud noise affects hearing. Our ears transmit sounds as vibrations from the outer ear to the inner ear which are then converted to nerve impulses. When noise is too loud for too long, cells in the inner ear are destroyed.
Continuous or repeated exposure to loud noise can cause permanent hearing loss. Noise in excess of 90 decibels is considered hazardous when exposure occurs several hours each day.
The professional staff at Meridian Hearing Conservation Services (a division of Meridian Hearing Centre) will work with employers to develop a unique hearing conservation program to fit your company's needs.
