What is An Auditory Processing Problem?
An auditory processing problem is when a child or adult with normal hearing sensitivity and intelligence, has an inability to attend to, discriminate, recognize, remember, or comprehend spoken information.
What are the Symptoms?
A person may have an auditory processing problem if he/she displays symptoms of:
- Hearing but not understanding
- Being easily distracted by background noise
- Saying "huh" or "what" frequently
- Misunderstanding what is said
- Having trouble following directions, even minutes after hearing them
- Having trouble completing assignments
- Daydreaming frequently
Testing Prerequisites
- If the patient is a child - the child must be 6 years of age or older.
- If the patient is a child - the child must have normal speech and language development for their age.
- English must be the patient's first language.
- The patient must have "average" intelligence.
