At Meridian Hearing Centre your care team includes: an Audiologist, Hearing Instrument Specialist, and a Patient Service Coordinator. They work together to build a lasting relationship with you so that Meridian Hearing Centre can service your hearing needs for years to come.
Audiologist
The role of an audiologist in today’s health care system is three fold.
Prevention
Audiologists design and conduct hearing conservation programs for industries and individuals. Noise damage is the largest preventable cause of hearing loss.
Identification
Your audiologist will conduct a thorough examination of your hearing to determine if any hearing loss is present, if so, what the cause is and how it is best treated.
Treatment
If the audiologist determines that significant hearing loss is present which is not surgically or medially treatable, he or she will develop a plan with you to provide the best hearing possible. This may include prescription and dispensing of hearing aids, speech reading skills, listening strategies, and use of assistive listening devices. If medical or surgical intervention is required the Audiologist will refer you to your family physician or an ear specialist with a diagnostic report.
Hearing Instrument Specialist / Audiology Assistants
Our Hearing Instrument Specialists (H.I.S.) are professionals who performs hearing testing, amplification selection, dispensing and amplification fitting, as well as instruction and counseling regarding amplification use, for hearing impaired individuals who have been prescribed amplification by an audiologist or physician. They also provide follow-up maintenance and care of hearing devices.
Our Hearing Instrument Specialists hold diplomas from community college training programs and have completed an internship program to qualify to work in Ontario. Our Hearing Instrument Specialists are members of the Association of Hearing Instrument Practitioners (AHIP) of Ontario. As members of AHIP, Hearing Instrument Specialists are required to maintain their professional competency through continuing education, which assures the public that members of AHIP are committed to meeting the highest standards of the profession.
Patient Service Coordinator (PSC)
Our Patient Service Coordinators are responsible for making your appointments, assisting you in completing any required forms, typing and sending any reports to your physician, employer, and/or insurer that you have consented to having sent, billing for your treatment and following up with you on any appointments in order to assist you in the "administrative" parts of your visit.
