Central Auditory Processing

What is An Auditory Processing Problem?
An auditory processing problem is when a child or adult with normal hearing sensitivity and intelligence, has an inability to attend to, discriminate, recognize, remember, or comprehend spoken information.
 
What are the Symptoms?
A person may have an auditory processing problem if he/she displays symptoms of:

  • Hearing but not understanding
  • Being easily distracted by background noise
  • Saying "huh" or "what" frequently
  • Misunderstanding what is said
  • Having trouble following directions, even minutes after hearing them
  • Having trouble completing assignments
  • Daydreaming frequently

Testing Prerequisites

  1. If the patient is a child - the child must be 6 years of age or older.
  2. If the patient is a child - the child must have normal speech and language development for their age.
  3. English must be the patient's first language.

The patient must have "average" intelligence.
